Image-guided therapy developer Brainlab has received the CE Mark for its ExacTrac Dynamic patient positioning and monitoring system for use in radiation therapy.
ExacTrac Dynamic provides x-ray-based monitoring of patient position during radiation therapy treatments. The new version includes high-speed thermal surface tracking technology, combined with an update of the company's ExacTrac x-ray monitoring.
The new version is designed to extend the use of ExacTrac Dynamic beyond stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) capabilities into surface-guided radiation therapy, while still delivering benefits like noncoplanar x-ray monitoring and submillimeter precision, according to the company.
The system has a new 4D thermal camera with 300,000 3D surface points to externally monitor patient position and detect movement during treatment; meanwhile, a 4Pi frameless immobilization feature simplifies frameless fixation with three moldable thermoplastic mask options.
Brainlab has developed the system to be integrated with linear accelerators from Elekta and Varian Medical Systems.
