Image-guided radiation therapy developer ViewRay is reporting a milestone achieved by a user in Italy of its MRIdian MRI-guided radiation therapy system.
University Hospital Agostino Gemelli in Rome has treated its 1,000th patient with MRIdian, becoming the fifth site worldwide to achieve this milestone. The hospital installed the system in 2017 and treated more than 250 patients in 2021.
Currently over 50% of MRIdian treatments at the hospital are stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), which delivers higher doses of radiation in five or fewer fractions. Nearly 25% of the hospital's MRIdian stereotactic MR-guided online adaptive radiation therapy (SMART) treatments are for liver and pancreatic cancers.
