At last week's American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) meeting in Seattle, Agilent Technologies introduced a small multiplane transducer to perform transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) on pediatric patients and small adults.
Called miniMulti TEE, the transducer is designed for use with Agilent's Sonos 5500 and 4500 cardiovascular ultrasound systems, and replaces older biplane TEE transducer technology, according to the Andover, MA-based firm. Agilent said the transducer also complements recent pediatric enhancements to Sonos 5500 and 4500, such as harmonic imaging capability on its pediatric Ultraband transducer.
miniMulti performs 2-D, color-flow, steerable continuous-wave Doppler, and pulsed-wave Doppler, according to the company. The imaging array is rotatable from 0º to 180º via a manually controlled knob located on top of the control handle. Also included is a thermistor that constantly monitors tip temperature for patient safety, according to Agilent.
In other Agilent news, the company has added 3-D capability to its EnConcert digital echocardiography information management product, thanks to the integration of Omni-View 3-D reconstruction software by 3-D/4-D ultrasound developer TomTec Imaging Systems. By installing Omni-View on an existing EnConcert client workstation, EnConcert customers can perform 3-D rendering and analysis without having to purchase additional hardware, according to Agilent.
