Handheld-ultrasound provider SonoSite reported fourth-quarter revenues of $15.3 million, up 129% compared with the $6.7 million posted in the fourth quarter of 2000. For the period (end-December 31), the Bothell, WA-based vendor had a net loss of $2.4 million, compared with a net loss of $8.2 million last year.
For the year, SonoSite had sales of $45.7 million, up 43% compared with the $32 million booked in 2000. The company had a net loss of $16.4 million, compared with a net loss of $19 million in 2000.
In 2002, SonoSite will grow its core markets, introduce new products, and build sales and marketing momentum in key geographic markets, said president and CEO Kevin Goodwin.
In other news, SonoSite has opened a direct sales operation in Barcelona, Spain. The new office will be led by Pascual Garcia, who previously served as regional manager for Acuson in Spain.
