Avanca Medical Devices of Albuquerque, NM, is touting the results of a clinical study that showed enhanced performance of its reciprocating procedure device (RPD) syringe with ultrasound when compared to a regular syringe with ultrasound.
Study results indicate that using sonographic needle guidance and the RPD one-handed syringe provided less procedural pain, improved effect of the injected drug, greater responder rate, and reduced nonresponder rate than with sonographic needle guidance and a conventional syringe, according to the company. Results were published in the Journal of Rheumatology (September 2009, Vol. 36:9, pp. 1892-1902).
The study found that the one-handed RPD design significantly improves the performance and outcomes of ultrasound-guided injections in a clinically significant manner, the company said.
