Toshiba gets FDA nod for Auto-IMT software

Toshiba America Medical Systems has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Auto-IMT ultrasound software.

Available now on Toshiba's Aplio XG, Aplio MX, and Xario XG ultrasound systems, Auto-IMT can measure the thickness of the intima-media layers of the carotid artery to aid in early detection of cardiovascular disease risk, according to the vendor.

It can determine the thickness of the near and far arterial walls from three segments of the carotid artery, at an optimal angle of incidence and two complementary planes. It then traces the two complementary planes automatically and calculates the distance between them.

Toshiba said it worked with Midwest Ultrasound, a division of Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, to develop the software tool.
