Siemens sponsors ultrasound research

Siemens Healthcare has underwritten a $20,000 grant from the Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) for point-of-care ultrasound research in emergency settings.

The grant was awarded to Dr. Dimitrios Papanagnou, director of simulation and medical student ultrasound course director at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Papanagnou will use the grant to analyze clinician-performed bedside ultrasound in patients presenting to the emergency department with acute dyspnea, according to Siemens.

The study will investigate whether basic ultrasound views of the heart and lungs can improve the ability of emergency department physicians to identify the source of patient dyspnea, Siemens said.
