Portable-ultrasound firm Terason and needle visualization technology developer Soma Access Systems have received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for a new transducer fitted with Soma's AxoTrack needle visualization technology.
The combination of ultrasound imaging with virtual needle technology offers real-time needle tracking for a variety of ultrasound-guided procedures, according to Terason and Soma. Physicians can plot the needle's trajectory and observe its progress as it travels through tissue to the intended targets, the companies said.
Terason said it will begin shipments of the probe midsummer.
