Ultrasound vendor Ultrasonix Medical has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance to market its SonixGPS technology for vascular access procedures.
SonixGPS helps clinicians predict and visualize the needle's trajectory during invasive procedures, the firm said. It allows users to position the transducer to see the target and to select a safe needle direction and angle, according to Ultrasonix. SonixGPS is available on Ultrasonix's SonixTouch, SonixTablet and SonixMDP ultrasound systems.
SonixGPS has received the European CE Mark for both nerve block and vascular access procedures. Its use in nerve blocks in the U.S. is pending FDA clearance.
