Toshiba updates Aplio ultrasound software

Toshiba America Medical Systems said it has enhanced the software for its Aplio ultrasound systems with the Innovation 2013 upgrade, which will be on display at this week's American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) annual meeting in New York City.

The package offers a number of enhancements, including B-mode and color Doppler imaging. Additional features available as options include Luminance, a 4D rendering and lighting technique optimized for fetal images, Toshiba said.

The company is also introducing two new transducers. PVT-781VT (3-11 MHz) is a high-resolution endocavitary transducer designed for endovaginal and prostate imaging. The transducer supports Aplio 500's Smart Fusion technology for synchronizing ultrasound with CT or MR images on a single screen.

The second transducer, PLT-1005BT (5-14 MHz), is a high-frequency, high-resolution, wide-aperture linear-array transducer optimized for small-parts imaging, including breast exams.

Workflow enhancements include the firm's next-generation Quick Assist protocols, aimed at automating workflow, increasing consistency, and standardizing exams, the company said. All Aplio 500 and 300 customers will receive the upgrades at no cost, excluding new options, as part of the Reliance Technology Protection program, Toshiba said.
