Optoacoustic imaging developer Seno Medical Instruments has named Dr. Thomas Stavros as its medical director.
Stavros is a practicing radiologist in women's imaging with more than 30 years of experience, having been involved in mammography since 1976. He is currently a women's imaging radiologist at Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento, CA.
Stavros has been actively involved in the development of high-frequency handheld breast ultrasound since 1981, and he also wrote the textbook Breast Ultrasound.
Seno has developed Imagio, a breast imaging system that uses a combination of traditional breast ultrasound that is coregistered with optoacoustic technology. The system provides physicians with real-time anatomical images of the breast with a functional "blood map" of potentially suspicious masses.
