The government of Western Australia's consumer protection unit is investigating claims that a fetal ultrasound provider has been giving fake ultrasound photos to women, according to a report from ABC.
A number of women in Bunbury have complained to authorities that a center operator in the southwest of Western Australia gave them fetal ultrasound photos that were actually generic photos found online, according to the article.
After one woman noticed that the serial numbers and names on the back of the picture were different from what could be seen on her live ultrasound and DVD, she posted her concerns on Facebook. Other women responded by posting their images, and it became clear that many of them had received the same photos.
A representative from the consumer protection division told ABC that it's assessing the claims, and anyone who believes they may have received fake ultrasound photos should contact the Western Australia Department of Commerce.
