Mindray appoints Laughlin as chief product officer

Medical equipment manufacturer Mindray Medical International has appointed Glen McLaughlin, PhD, as chief product officer (CPO) of ultrasound, for the company's worldwide operations.

McLaughlin will retain his current titles of president of Zonare and the executive vice president of ultrasound for Mindray North America.

The CPO position was created after a retrospective review of Mindray's ultrasound business. McLaughlin and his team will work in close collaboration with users of the company's premium and high-end ultrasound scanners to ensure Mindray's ultrasound strategy and development are aligned with the customers' imaging requirements.

McLaughlin is the pioneer behind the development of Zone Sonography Technology (ZST), a next-generation ultrasound technology based primarily on software. ZST enables imaging developments such as Advanced Acoustic Acquisition, a software acquisition technique that breaks with traditional line-by-line imaging and instead uses large zones to acquire 90% more echo data at speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional systems, Mindray said.
