With the help of Toshiba Medical's Viamo portable ultrasound system, clinicians from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center have completed their second annual mission to Bugando Medical Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania.
Toshiba donated the Viamo scanner through its partnership with Mending Kids to help a radiologist and surgeons perform corrective surgeries on pediatric patients with anorectal malformations. The ultrasound system was used to image urinary tracts and spinal cords and to train local staff members to perform exams on their own for future patients with similar abnormalities.
Cincinnati Children's plans to complete its third Tanzanian mission with the Viamo system next month.
