Perceptive Navigation has received a phase IIB Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The $3 million award provides funding for the company to complete product development and clinical work to commercialize its Vu-Path miniaturized ultrasound probe. Perceptive previously received a $1.4 million phase II award from the NHLBI for development of the device.
The Vu-Path probe features an interventional channel for needles, guidewires, and other tools and is designed to provide continuous real-time "always-in-plane" ultrasound guidance for enhanced vascular access.
