Exact Imaging, Cambridge Consultants target prostate cancer

Ultrasound technology developer Exact Imaging has teamed with Cambridge Consultants to improve the visualization and detection of prostate cancer.

The companies plan to combine Exact Imaging's ExactVu microultrasound system with Cambridge Consultants' deep-learning technology to identify suspicious regions of tissue and better inform urologists about prospective biopsy protocols.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in men in both the U.S. and the U.K. Currently, ultrasound is used to guide needle biopsies to diagnose prostate cancer, but the modality has a false-negative rate of approximately 30% due to less-than-stellar resolution, according to the companies.
