Ultrasound developer Fujifilm SonoSite is collaborating with the Allen Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AI2) Incubator to advance the interpretation of ultrasound images with AI.
The initiative is designed to create new ultrasound applications to enhance accuracy and utilize deep-learning models on portable ultrasound devices.
Fujifilm SonoSite is promoting ultrasound as a more affordable, portable modality without radiation for patients. While its lower image quality has been a drawback, deep-learning algorithms potentially could improve accuracy and clinical evaluations.
"In tackling this challenge, we are pushing deep learning, computer vision, and medical imaging into uncharted territory," said Vu Ha, PhD, technical director at the AI2 Incubator. "In building new AI-based capabilities in affordable ultrasound devices, we hope to bring them to underserved markets to improve healthcare around the world."
