Dear Women's Imaging Insider,
Guten Tag! Our Insider Exclusive article comes straight to you from the 2007 International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) meeting in Berlin. Radiologists at the University of Tokushima in Japan are working with 3-tesla MRI to deduce one of the hallmark signs of endometrial cysts. Click here to learn more about the potential of high-field MR in endometriosis.
Also from the ISMRM, we have a study out of Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital that culled some of the predictors for successful MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) therapy. For the details, click here.
In other gynecological imaging news, researchers at the University of Kentucky in Lexington assessed the value of annual transvaginal sonography (TVS) screening for ovarian cancer detection. Meanwhile, a group at Taiwan's Taipei Medical University suggested that cervical pregnancies can be successfully managed with ultrasound-guided injection of methotrexate and potassium chloride.
The Women's Imaging Digital Community also features two articles on fibroid treatment: One discusses how to reduce radiation dose during uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), while a companion piece offers aortographic characteristics that can signal if ovarian artery embolization will be necessary. Both studies were conducted at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Finally, be sure to come back to the Women's Imaging Digital Community in the near future for more ISMRM news, including articles on stress urinary incontinence, appendicitis in pregnant woman, and, of course, breast MRI.
