U.K.-based Ibex announced that its osteoporosis detection software will be integrated into Metaltronica's Cybele digital mammography system.
The software is being tested at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, to assess how bone-density screening can be managed within the workflow of the mammography unit. The study will assess the feasibility of measuring bone health with a wrist x-ray at the same visit as a standard mammogram.
The combination of osteoporosis screening at the same time as mammography screening may be of value to post-menopausal women and those undergoing breast cancer treatment using aromatase inhibitors, as aromatase inhibitors can negatively impact bone density, Ibex said.
