CMS floats 10% cut for 2002 mammography reimbursement

The 2002 Ambulatory Patient Classification (APC) payment rate for screening mammography is listed at $32.54, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) Web site, a suggested 10% decrease from 2001. The 2002 mammography APC (0271) lists a national unadjusted copayment of $17.90 and a minimum adjusted copayment of $6.51.

The CMS has also published proposed changes to the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) and calendar year 2002 payment rates. The proposed regulations and notices have been forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register (OFR) for publication, according to the CMS site.
