This Tucson, AZ-based DR product manufacturer's goal is to offer systems that help users upgrade installed film-based mammography units to digital.

2005 11 04 16 20 43 706To this end, Bioptics plans to highlight two work-in-progress units at the RSNA show: piXarray 100 Digital Specimen Radiography System and piXarray8100 Digital Radiography cassette for full-field digital mammography. Both of these products, as well as Bioptics's other offerings, are based on flat-panel complementary metal oxide sensor (CMOS) detectors and high-resolution columnar CsI scintillator technologies.

piXarray 100 is a portable DR unit for core biopsy and surgical biopsy specimens, and can be used in applications such as breast core biopsy, surgical biopsy, lumpectomy, and excisional biopsy. Bioptics hopes the FDA will clear this unit during the RSNA show.

With 10 line pairs/mm resolution and 60% DQE, piXarray8100 is compatible with film-based analog mammography systems. The company expects this product to be cleared by the FDA in mid-2006.
