Ultrasound imaging technology developer TechniScan Medical Systems has received an extension of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for its ultrasound breast imaging technology.
The Salt Lake City company said that the National Cancer Institute (NCI)/National Institutes of Health (NIH) had provided additional funding worth $1.7 million for the company to continue a phase II study of its technology. The NCI awarded $200,000 in a phase I SBIR grant issued in December 2006.
In phase II of the study, TechniScan will produce two systems based on an improved version of its UltraSound CT imaging system. The machines will be used for phase III investigational studies at the University of California, San Diego and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, NY.
