North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory on July 23 signed legislation that directs healthcare facilities that perform mammography examinations to provide patients with information on their breast density.
The legislation was approved by the state's Senate on July 9; the House of Representatives passed HB 467 on July 15.
With the bill, North Carolina joins 11 other states that have passed breast density notification laws: Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, New York, California, Hawaii, Maryland, Tennessee, Alabama, Nevada, and Oregon.
