Up to 12,000 mammograms performed at a breast imaging center in Hawaii may have errors, according to an article in the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March suspended the mammography accreditation at Hawaii Radiologic Associates' Hilo Women's Imaging Center after the center failed to pass an annual evaluation.
The Hilo center has sent letters to patients who had mammograms between June 2014 and August 2015, informing them that there may be inaccuracies in their exams and that they should check with their physician to determine if they need a new exam. At the FDA's direction, the center is conducting a recertification process that could take up to two months, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported.
