Breast tissue density awareness groups Are You Dense and Are You Dense Advocacy have appointed Joseph Cappello as their new executive director.
Cappello's wife, the late Nancy Cappello, PhD, founded both organizations. She died in November 2018 from a rare form of bone marrow cancer that can be associated with previous radiation and chemotherapy cancer treatments.
Both groups have been active in lobbying for breast density notification laws; currently, 36 states have such legislation on the books, with Cappello's home state of Connecticut being the first to pass a density notification bill in 2009.
