Johns Hopkins University has tapped Dr. Karen Horton as the permanent chair of its Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science.
Horton had been interim chair of the department since February 2016. She received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins in 1992 and also did her radiology residency at the institution, which she completed in 1997. She led Hopkins' radiology residency program from 2009 to 2014.
Her research specialties have been in 3D CT, particularly for imaging the pancreas and pancreatic tumors, as well as for virtual colonoscopy. Recently, she has focused on the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to radiology.
Her appointment as permanent chair began on October 1.
