Synaptive signs Henry Ford Health System

3D visualization firm Synaptive Medical has installed its Modus V robotic arm at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

The institution said it's the first to use the robotic imaging technology in Michigan. Developed from technology used on the International Space Station to position astronauts, repair satellites, and move cargo, Modus V contains a digital microscope that combines a high-powered microscope with a high-definition exoscope, according to Henry Ford Health System. It's used in conjunction with Synaptive's BrightMatter Plan and Guide surgical planning and navigation systems.

Modus V has been useful at the hospital for avoiding critical structures in the brain and spinal cord, and it can be combined with BrightMatter Plan and Guide for advanced cranial surgery, including skull-based procedures and treatments for aneurysms and vascular lesions, the health system said. The robotic arm can also be used for minimally invasive spine surgery.
