3D printing firm 3D Systems has launched a new printing service for clinicians looking to have experts print their virtual 3D models and deliver them to their healthcare institution.
The on-demand anatomical modeling service allows clinicians to order 3D-printed models by following several steps:
- Preparing a virtual 3D model based on medical images using any commercially available software, including 3D Systems' D2P software
- Uploading the completed 3D model file into the 3D Systems website. Files can be saved in stereolithography (STL), object file (OBJ), or polygon file (PLY) format
- Selecting the printing material
- Requesting a quote and then reviewing and finalizing the order
Through a separate yet similar patient-specific anatomical modeling service, clinicians have the option of directly sending patients' CT or MRI scans to 3D Systems for both 3D modeling and 3D printing.
The new 3D printing services provide medical professionals with access to individually tailored 3D-printed anatomical models that may enhance 3D visualization for presurgical planning and patient education, according to the firm. Model delivery typically takes five business days.
