Medivis unveils augmented reality platform for surgery

Augmented reality (AR) technology company Medivis launched its AR platform for surgical applications, SurgicalAR, at last week's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting.

SurgicalAR allows clinicians wearing a Microsoft HoloLens headset to overlay medical images directly onto a patient during surgery, rather than examining 2D images on a screen away from the patient. Using the AR technology can improve the precision of surgical procedures, the efficiency of real-time decision-making, and overall patient safety, the company said.

Medivis also announced that it closed $2.3 million in seed funding in a round led by venture capital firm Initialized Capital.
