AUSTIN, TX - Image display and advanced visualization software developer Barco has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Voxar 3D Enterprise, the client-server version of its flagship 3D technology. The company announced the clearance at this week's Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) meeting.
Voxar 3D Enterprise provides access to 3D images across the healthcare enterprise using a server that stores 3D data and applications and distributes it to thin-client computers, such as standard off-the-shelf PCs, throughout the facility. The previous version of Voxar software relies on 3D image processing taking place at powerful workstations typically located within the reading environment.
The software increases the speed at which 3D images can be loaded onto a workstation by a factor of nearly 10, according to the company. Voxar 3D Enterprise can also be integrated into an existing PACS network, or into radiology workflow at facilities that do not have PACS. Barco introduced the software at last year's RSNA meeting, and commercial shipments will begin in May.
