TeraRecon

TeraRecon of San Mateo, CA, will introduce a new platform for its Aquarius suite of products, as well as new workstation software and a new chipset for 3D volume rendering.

Aquarius iNtuition is a new platform architecture for Aquarius designed to deliver the integration of advanced imaging workflow to the healthcare enterprise. The platform is based on the firm's VolumePro 2000 computer boards using a new Falcon chipset.

TeraRecon will highlight iNtuition's workflow, which is designed to minimize the manual interaction required to bring a volumetric exam to the point in which a physician can make a definitive diagnostic or therapeutic planning decision.

In the first step of the iNtuition workflow process, the company's Advanced Processing Server (APS) automatically preprocesses newly acquired exams using automated protocols, and delivers results to the AquariusNet Server and/or Aquarius Workstation. Technologists can then validate automated results and perform quality control and additional editing if needed using the Aquarius Workstation or AquariusNet Thin Client.

Data is then delivered to a diagnostic workstation (either an Aquarius Workstation or an Aquarius Thin Client operating alongside a PACS viewer). Physicians can directly open preprocessed studies and begin reading immediately, according to the company. Meanwhile, referring physicians can access scans prepackaged for them in an interactive format.

For Aquarius Workstation, TeraRecon will demonstrate version 4.0, which features a transition to the iNtuition platform for basic review and image management. Future development of advanced applications will be performed on the iNtuition architecture, according to the company. In time, this should lead to a fully client-server image management station, the company said.

On Aquarius VLE, TeraRecon will demonstrate its next-generation VolumePro 2000/Falcon rendering boards, with each server consisting of quadruple 4-GB boards.

The Falcon chipset will be a major highlight on the hardware side of TeraRecon's booth. VolumePro 2000/Falcon boards are designed for real-time visualization of extremely large volumetric datasets, and are expected to deliver several times the performance and scalability of the company's older-generation VolumePro 1000 boards, while adding enhancements to image quality.

Finally, look for TeraRecon to emphasize recent relationships it has cemented with other companies, including PACS, structured reporting, and computer-aided detection (CAD) developers.
