Although breast ultrasound has become an important tool in the women's imaging diagnostic armamentarium, these exams are often time-consuming and operator-dependent. Researchers from Taiwan and Korea hope to change all that, however, with a new computer-aided detection (CAD) technique that uses a 3D image processing scheme to improve early detection of breast cancer.
At the Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery (CARS) meeting in Berlin, Ruey-Feng Chang, Ph.D., from the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics at National Taiwan University in Taipei, shared details on the software, which was used in tandem with a whole-breast ultrasound system to detect early breast tumors with high sensitivity.
