Swiss imaging software developer Medimaps said that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has set a reimbursement amount for a new category I current procedural terminology (CPT) code that covers osteoporosis risk fracture assessment via trabecular bone scores (TBS).
The CPT code, which was approved in November by the American Medical Association, had been submitted by the American College of Radiology and supported by rheumatology and endocrinology societies, according to Medimaps. The CPT code and associated reimbursement will take effect on January 1.
The company's TBS iNsight software provides a trabecular bone score for dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and x-ray images.
