The University of San Francisco (USF) Data Institute has launched the Wicklow AI and Medical Research Initiative (WAMRI), a new research lab that will focus on the development of practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine.
Funded by a gift from venture capital firm Wicklow Capital, WAMRI will bring together medical and AI experts to develop AI models in areas such as oncology, cardiology, and neurology, according to USF. The university said that WAMRI has already organized five joint projects with researchers and students from USF and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
