X-ray technology company Nanox and teleradiology services provider USARad are teaming up to introduce a radiology diagnostic service that will utilize over 300 radiologists and over 20 artificial intelligence (AI)-based decision-support algorithms.
The agreement expands on a previous deal announced in February 2020 to collaborate on deploying 3,000 Nanox.ARC digital x-ray systems in the U.S. Pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for Nanox.ARC, the new program will become part of the Nanox service offering, according to the vendor.
The plan is to use x-ray-based AI algorithms for analysis of large datasets along with radiologists' interpretations in a workflow that prioritizes urgent cases, according to the companies. Nanox and USARad are targeting insurance companies and other key healthcare constituents such as outpatient imaging centers for the program.
The following three categories are expected at launch for the program:
- Population health screening and predictive analytics for conditions such as coronary artery disease, stroke prevention, and osteoporosis
- Post-acute triage for urgent conditions such as pneumothorax, acute fracture, and pneumonia (including COVID-19)
- Routine peer review and quality assurance cases for conditions such as lung nodules, tumors, and incidental vertebral compression fractures
