Artificial intelligence (AI) has become ubiquitous in the healthcare enterprise, and it offers important benefits for medical imaging, particularly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Maryellen Giger, PhD.
But building and using sound AI for imaging can be a challenging task, according to a May 5 talk from AuntMinnnie.com's 2021 Virtual Conference delivered by Giger, of the University of Chicago. Giger outlines the efforts of the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC) to support the development of AI for diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.
MIDRC is an initiative led by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the university's Gen3 Data Commons group. Giger is the A.N. Pritzker Distinguished Service Professor of Radiology Committee on Medical Physics and vice chair of radiology for basic science research at the University of Chicago.
