GE Healthcare and startup accelerator Nex Cubed have named six medical imaging artificial intelligence (AI) startups to participate in the first Edison Accelerator in Canada.

The Edison Accelerator program is designed to accelerate, validate, and scale innovative healthcare AI technologies, according to the vendors. The six companies chosen to participate include the following:

  • 16 Bit: A developer of computer-aided detection and notification software to provide opportunistic screening for low bone mineral density on routinely acquired chest, spine, pelvis, knee, or hand x-rays
  • Bot Image: A developer of postprocessing software designed to aid interpretation of prostate MRI exams
  • CardioWise: A developer of cardiac CT quantitative analysis software
  • Contextflow: A developer of deep-learning algorithms for quantitative and qualitative analysis of lung disease patterns and nodules on lung CT
  • Corelinesoft: A developer of AI-based medical image processing software aimed at providing early screening and prevention
  • Us2.ai: A developer of software that automatically provides AI-based structured reports of echocardiography exams in under two minutes

In addition, AI software developer Circle Cardiovascular Imaging already is leveraging the Edison Accelerator to speed the integration of its StrokeSENS software with GE's Edison platform, GE said. All seven firms will now test their software within the Edison Digital Health Platform and receive a customized program plan as well as hand-picked mentors with the goal of accelerating integration and commercialization, according to GE.

At the end of the program, all participants can present their technology to a network of investors, potential business partners, and customers at what GE calls an Innovation Showcase. Furthermore, these companies may have the opportunity, subject to applicable regulatory authorization, to distribute successful software applications, through the GE Healthcare Marketplace online store, GE said.
