Healthcare information systems provider Cerner reported robust revenues, earnings, and bookings for its fiscal 2005 fourth quarter (end-December 31).
Fourth-quarter 2005 revenues increased 31% to $325.8 million, compared with $248.2 million in the same quarter last year. For the period, 2005 net earnings were $27.4 million, a strong showing compared with net earnings of $21.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2004.
For the 2005 fiscal year, revenue totaled $1.16 billion, a 25% surge on fiscal 2004 revenue of $926.4 million. The fiscal year saw net earnings of $86.3 million, a solid increase compared with net earnings of $64.7 million in 2004.
New business bookings revenue in the fourth quarter was $386.3 million, a 58% increase compared with the same period in 2004, the company said. Fourth-quarter bookings include $65.5 million of bookings related to Cerner's contract with Fujitsu Services as part of the National Health Service (NHS) initiative to automate clinical processes and digitize medical records in the Southern Cluster of England.
Excluding bookings revenue from that ongoing contract, Cerner's bookings revenue was $320.8 million, a 31% upswing over the 2004 fourth quarter. The firm said that 2005 fiscal-year bookings were $1.35 billion, an increase of 48% compared with 2004 bookings of $917.4 million.
