Philips' SpeechMagic to support Spanish hospitals

Spanish IT provider Indra will implement speech recognition technology from Philips Speech Recognition Systems in all radiology departments of Spain's Castilla-La Mancha regional healthcare service.

SpeechMagic software from Vienna-based Philips Speech Recognition Systems will initially be installed in three hospitals in the cities of Cuenca, Albacete, and Hellin, with the remaining hospitals to follow suit in 2007.

SpeechMagic will be introduced as part of project Ykonos, a European Union initiative to develop and introduce a digital image-based diagnosis system that will also allow physicians to share and access patient medical information. The $10.8 million third phase includes the installation of equipment to digitize, store, and display radiology images.
