Washington advocates healthcare information banks

The Washington State Health Care Authority reported earlier this month that its Health Information Infrastructure Advisory Board (HIIAB) has released a report recommending that the state create health record banks that would allow hospitals and other providers to electronically share information about patients.

According to Olympia, WA-based HIIAB, a number of hospitals and other providers currently use electronic medical records (EMRs). Many of the facilities are not a part of the same provider network and are unable to share patient information, which is why the board recommended the health record bank schema.
