AHRQ offers IT grant money

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is making available as much as $25.8 million in grant money from the U.S. government for healthcare IT projects.

The Rockville, MD-based agency is earmarking the funds for initiatives in the ambulatory care setting. The IT programs must improve upon patient-centered care, clinician use of technology, and quality measurement.

As many as 40 recipients could receive a total of $9 million in 2007 to improve clinician use of healthcare IT, while another $6 million will be allocated to establish IT programs for patient-centered care. Two dozen recipients will receive a total of $6.8 million to measure quality improvement through IT.
