GE Healthcare and Microsoft are highlighting new developments with their upcoming 50-50 joint venture, now called Caradigm.
At launch, Caradigm will develop and market an open, interoperable technology platform and collaborative clinical applications focused on providing better population health management to improve outcomes and the economics of health and wellness, according to the companies.
Microsoft will contribute its Amalga enterprise health intelligence platform, Vergence single sign-on and context management application, and expreSSO enterprise single sign-on system, while GE will provide its eHealth health information exchange and Qualibria clinical knowledge application environment (being developed in cooperation with Intermountain Healthcare and the Mayo Clinic).
The firms will demonstrate future product capabilities at next week's annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting in Las Vegas.
Serving under CEO-designate Michael Simpson at Caradigm will be chief medical officer and senior vice president of product strategy Dr. Brandon Savage. Savage is currently chief medical officer of GE Healthcare IT.
Other Caradigm executives include chief technology officer and senior vice president of engineering Neal Singh, who's currently general manager of Microsoft Dynamics AX Global Financial Management.
Current GE Healthcare Commercial Center of Excellence director Nigel Mason will serve as chief operating officer, while current Microsoft senior HR director Tami Lamp will be chief people officer. In addition, current GE Healthcare IT Knowledge and Connectivity Solutions chief counsel Warren Ratliff has been named general counsel and vice president.
Caradigm is expected to launch in the first half of 2012, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
