Verizon, Motorola Mobility, BoxTone collaborate

Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Motorola Mobility, and BoxTone are collaborating to help improve the security of mobile devices and apps for healthcare practitioners, according to the companies.

They plan to offer a package of services intended to promote widespread Android-based mobile devices in healthcare. The companies are adding BoxTone's automated Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) software platform to select Motorola devices, which initially will include the Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx smartphones and the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 tablets. These will operate on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.

The smartphones and tablets will contain preloaded Citrix software for access to electronic medical records, 3LM software for embedded device security, and the BoxTone EMM software for automated life-cycle management.

The companies announced the collaboration during the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting in Las Vegas this week, where they have been demonstrating the package in Verizon's booth.
