The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) has been authorized by the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) to certify electronic health records (EHRs) used to comply with meaningful use (MU) requirements.
Specifically, CCHIT is approved to certify software products for the ONC HIT Certification Program 2014 Edition. In addition, the American National Standards Institute and the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology have extended CCHIT's scope of accreditation to include both the ONC 2011 and 2014 edition programs.
CCHIT joins the Drummond Group and InfoGard Laboratories in announcing this month that they are ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Bodies (ONC-ATCB) to certify 2014 edition products.
Healthcare providers need to use 2014 edition certified EHRs or EHR modules for 90 days before they can attest to meeting stage 2 meaningful use requirements. For physicians, attestation for stage 2 begins on January 1, 2014, and for hospitals it begins on October 1, 2014.
