RSNA and SCAR to hold informatics symposia

Educating practicing radiologists about the pitfalls and benefits of digital image management is the subject of a new series of educational symposia being sponsored through a collaboration between two major radiology societies, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR).

Entitled "Practicing Radiologist Informatics," the new initiative is designed for the many private-practice radiologists who are facing the shift to PACS and other digital technologies. Symposia subjects will include topics such as speech recognition, basics of digital radiography, quality assurance testing for display monitors, and automated hanging protocols.

The first course will be held on June 1, just before SCAR's annual conference in Orlando, FL, and will be entitled "Planning for the Filmless Transition." The second course will be held as a standalone day in Chicago in September, while the third course will be held in conjunction with the RSNA's 2005 annual meeting in Chicago.
