StorageTek launches new archiving initiative

Data-storage firm StorageTek of Louisville, CO, has launched a new line of archiving software designed to help businesses comply with regulatory requirements for the long-term preservation of data.

The first offering, Lifecycle Fixed Content Manager 100, is designed to prevent the alteration or deletion of sensitive data for as long as the business deems necessary, according to the company. The product is disk-based and scalable, offering between 2 to 18 TB of storage.

Lifecycle Fixed Content Manager 100 is being rolled out initially for use in managing e-mail archives, according to the company. A version for the healthcare industry will be introduced later this year to help healthcare facilities comply with regulatory initiatives such as HIPAA. StorageTek may also develop versions using tape storage, which is cheaper than disk-based storage and more appropriate for long-term archives.
