Amicas boosts revenue, cuts losses in Q1

Radiology image and information systems company Amicas of Boston reported revenues for its fiscal 2005 first quarter of $12.1 million, up 28% from the $9.5 million in revenues booked for the same period in fiscal 2004.

For the quarter (end-March 31), the firm's loss from continuing operations after income taxes was $2.3 million, a decline by more than half compared with the $5.5 million in losses posted for the first quarter of 2004.

During the quarter, Amicas completed the sale of its medical division to Cerner on January 3 for $100 million in cash. As a result of the sale, Amicas recorded a gain from discontinued operations for the quarter of $46.1 million. For the quarter overall, the firm posted net income of $43.8 million, compared with a loss of $2.2 million for the same period last year.
