PACS pioneer Bauman passes away

Dr. Roger Bauman, one of the first class of seven elected as fellows of the Society of Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) in May of 2000, died on November 1.

His distinguished career included service on the Division of Computers of the American College of Radiology (ACR) from 1970 to 1995. From 1971 to 1975, he chaired the ACR Committee on Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and Diagnosis.

Bauman, of Winchester, MA, presented his refresher course, "Computers in Diagnostic Radiology," from 1973 to 1977 at the RSNA meeting and participated in RSNA refresher courses on using PACS workstations from 1992 to 1995.

In 1987, Bauman became founding editor in chief of the Journal of Digital Imaging (JDI), which soon became SCAR's official journal.
