Enterprise imaging and software developer Intelerad Medical Systems has continued its acquisition spree by purchasing Digisonics, a developer of software for ultrasound image management and structured reporting.
Houston-based Digisonics was founded some 40 years ago and offers software primarily in the fields of obstetrics/gynecology, radiology, and cardiology. The company's Radiology Reporting Suite offers enterprise-level vendor-neutral reporting for radiology studies, while its Digiview software provides PACS and structured reporting for all cardiovascular imaging modalities.
Intelerad sees the deal as enabling the company to offer its customers a scalable radiology software suite that will enable them to consolidate their enterprise imaging on a single platform, either hosted or on-premises. Digisonics has some 2,000 customers.
The deal continues Intelerad's recent acquisition activity. The company announced in August that it had acquired cloud hosting provider Radius in an agreement designed to take advantage of growing interest in cloud-based hosting of medical images.
Intelerad is a privately held firm, with a majority interest owned by Hg, a European investment firm that acquired a majority stake in the company earlier this year. Hg owned four other healthcare firms besides Intelerad at the time of that deal.
