InSiteOne
Archiving services provider InSiteOne will highlight a new version of its InDex Online Web-based archive management and reporting tool. InDex Online is designed to simplify administration of the Wallingford, CT-based vendor's onsite archive, allowing clients to use a browser-based application to manage archived images and create reports, according to InSiteOne. The company will also showcase the latest version of its InDex software.
Integrated Modular Systems
This RIS and PACS provider will show version 1.1 of Radin image distribution system (provided by German PACS developer Radin). Radin 1.1 uses Windows 2000 for its server platform. In addition, the PACS software now includes wavelet compression and improved image encryption for transmission over the Internet.
With Radin 1.1, users can display reports in HTML format, according to IMSI of Havertown, PA. Measurement functions have also been added, as has improved support for angiography images.
Intelerad Medical Systems
Canadian PACS provider Intelerad will point booth visitors to a scaled-down version of its IntelePACS product line, designed for small-scale, private-practice imaging centers. The company can now provide PACS technology to sites performing as few as 5,000 studies per year, according to Intelerad of Dollard Des Ormeaux, Quebec.
Intelerad also takes pride in its new ability to interface IntelePACS with virtually any HL7-based RIS, using a range of exchange mechanisms. With an interface to an HL7-conforming RIS, Intelerad now also provides DICOM modality worklists, according to the firm.
Two new Windows-based interfaces, Emergency Impression Tool (EIT) and Radiologist Worklist, will be shown, working in conjunction with eFilm Medical's workstation software. EIT allows emergency physicians to communicate their clinical impressions (via drop-down menus or free text) through the image viewing software to the interpreting radiologist. Radiologist Worklist keeps track of which studies have been dictated by the radiologist, and provides a sortable, searchable, and filterable list of studies to be read, according to Intelerad.
In security developments, Intelerad has enhanced the logging capabilities of its Intelebrowser Web interface. Auditing and report generation tools have also been incorporated, Intelerad said.
Medical Manager Health Systems/WebMD
Medical Manager will release version 3.0 of its RIS. New features include immediate document editing, auto-approval of normal reports, and authorization of approval by another doctor or transcriptionist. A new e-mail distribution module allows reports to be sent automatically to referring physicians based on exam order information, while an auto-faxing feature has been enhanced to include date and time stamping and receipt confirmation capabilities.
Enhanced order processing, Internet-based appointment requests, and special patient status handling for stat, VIP, and other user-defined special patient handling fields has been incorporated into the new release. The visit and study screens have been consolidated for faster data entry and review, according to the Van Nuys, CA-based firm. Among other additions, RIS 3.0 now includes some procedure code and diagnosis code validation table functionality to limit coding errors.
MedPACS Displays
This company will roll out WinFilm, an image distribution option for its image management software. WinFilm includes patient images on a standard CD-ROM, along with a stand-alone display program to view them, according to the Hartland, WI-based vendor. A ReadAlong feature allows radiologists to highlight significant features and areas of concern, and archive the annotated images along with the original patient images.
Medweb
The San Francisco-based PACS developer will introduce PDA gateway, which delivers radiology reports, key images, and laboratory information to a referring physician's Palm computer and similar handheld devices. Medweb is also introducing Terra-Beast, a dual-processor PACS/Web server that provides one terabyte of RAID 5 storage, a firewall, and a built-in virtual private network (VPN).
Medweb can also point to a low-cost, two-way satellite communications service for remote imaging facilities. A new Smart Monitor application creates a virtual radiology environment, enabling images from multiple centers to be read using a single interface, according to Medweb.
Merge Technologies
The firm's MergePort software will be highlighted this year. A radiology workflow broker between HIS, RIS, and PACS, MergePort is available as a software-only solution, or as an integrated hardware/software package, according to the Milwaukee-based vendor.
Merge will also showcase MergeView, a radiology workflow application designed to manage the distribution and visualization of medical images across the healthcare enterprise, according to the company. MergePort and MergeView were introduced in October.
Mitra
The Waterloo, Ontario-based OEM PACS supplier will be talking up its Enterprise Virtual Health Record strategy. Working with its OEM partners, Mitra's vision is to link the business (finance, payroll, enterprise resource planning software, etc.) and clinical (such as PACS, radiology and cardiology information systems) aspects of information technology into a virtual health record (VHR).
The VHR will be based on connecting heterogeneous systems (including multiple sites, systems, vendors, and technologies, as well as legacy systems), and linking and integrating them via an open and virtual framework, according to Mitra. The company's VHR will access appropriate data and use intelligent engines to build the right view for the right user, according to the firm.
